I recently almost broke my ankle and the doctor put me in a cast for three weeks. What can I do not to lose weight and maintain the shape I'm in?

When people are recovering from an injury, the two most common concerns are whether they will lose muscle and if they will gain fat (or stop losing it). It is tempting to "do something" when you're used to training and living an active lifestyle.
First, let's set some guidelines. It is important to allow your body to recover and not to aggravate the injury. That should be first on your list. If you push it too hard, you could make it worse and have no options.

Second, focus on nutrition. With proper nutrition, you won't gain fat even if you aren't performing any activities. Healthy, quality foods will also provide your body the nutrients it requires to recovery.

Finally, work with a physical therapist. They specialize in assisting people with the recovery process. Learn what you can do to not only help stay active, but also to strengthen the area you injured and make it stronger to prevent a similar injury from happening again.
