How much fat is in a plantain and how many is "too many" per day?
You know, that's a great question! Plantains are a type of fruit like bananas, so they are really low in fat. In fact, a raw plantain has less than 1 gram of fat. However, it also depends on how they are prepared.
For example, a popular snack is dried or roasted plantains. These are typically roasted in some sort of oil, so they can have up to 6 grams of fat in a serving. I'd stick to the natural kind or ones that you grill fresh yourself so that you can control the ingredients. With a good level of fiber, calcium, and potassium, they are a great fruit!
As for how much is "too many" only you can decide! I personally thing you can never get too much raw fruit and vegetables in a day, but others swear that fruit is their undoing so I'll leave it to Hippocrates who somewhere around 400 BC said, ""If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health."
That's the key ... not too little, but not too much.
