Is starvation mode really a myth?
Now, if you've read any of my writing, you'll note that I say repeatedly that starvation mode as most people claim it to be is an absolute and utter myth (no, I'm not the series or website he is referring to, I don't believe). However, Tom explains this quite well when he says:
The effects of starvation mode are indeed sometimes exaggerated and there are myths about the starvation mode, like it will completely "shut down" your metabolism (can't happen - you'd be dead if your metabolism stopped), or that if you miss one meal your metabolism will crash (doesn't happen that fast, although your blood sugar and energy levels may dip and hunger may rise).
Another myth about starvation mode is that adaptive reduction in metabolic rate (where metabolism slows down in response to decrease calorie intake) is enough to cause a weight loss plateau. That is also not true. it will cause a SLOW DOWN in progress but not a total cessation of fat loss.
I agree with these points 100% ... and you'll be surprised to hear what else Tom has to say. Read his full response by clicking on the article: Is Starvation Mode Just a Myth?. This is part of Tom's exclusive "Burn the Fat Inner Circle" but he has been kind enough to share this full article with our readers because it is such an important topic to understand.
In fact, I have to admit, after reading his informative article, I had to eat some of my own words and revise my opinion on starvation mode!
