Weight Loss and Healthy Living
Article by Jeremy Likness
Most people know that both exercise and nutrition are a key component for healthy living. Unfortunately, the stigma of overweight and obesity has created a false belief that being thin is healthy. Many people focus on eating healthier foods and just don't find the time to exercise. Research has suggested for years that exercise creates numerous health benefits above and beyond what healthy nutrition can provide. Now a study has shown that vigorous exercise can actually help prevent breast cancer.
The study was conducted by Michael F. Leitzmann at the National Cancer Institute, part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Over 30,000 women were studied. What the researchers found was the vigorous activity (anything ranging from yard work, chopping wood, even scrubbing floors to aerobics and other intense exercise) seemed to prevent breast cancer.
Two interesting results of the study include the fact that the activity only worked to lower the risk of breast cancer in women who were not overweight or obese, giving even more reason to shed those unwanted pounds and live a healthy, fit lifestyle. It also found that light activity had no preventative impact. This implies that long, slow jogs aren't going to do the trick ... to receive the benefits, you'll need to engage in more vigorous exercise such as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
